O Zoológico de Cracóvia foi aberto ao público em 6 de julho de 1929 e está localizado on the small prominence in the Wolski Forest on an area of 20 ha.
The Zoo is located on Jurassic plateau at 345 metres above sea level, in the middle of the woodland park known as the Las Wolski or Park Miejski, which covers 500 hectares, 10 quilômetros a oeste do centro de Cracóvia.
A magnificent panorama view is to be had of the city and the picturesque surrounding Jurassic hills from the highest point in the Las Wolski, the Piłsudski Independence Mound.
When it was first opened, Cracow ZOO, used to be called its historic Polish name, “Zwierzyniec” (“Menagerie”), had an area of 4 hectares e 111 animais belonging to 37 espécies. Now its area has grown to 17 hectares, and Zoo is home to over 1400 animais, representando 278 espécies.
O zoológico most interesting animals include a herd of hipopótamo-pigmeu (foto abaixo), which are threatened with extinction, a herd of Przewalski Horses, the Somali Wild Ass e Pere David's Deer, the Barasingha, the South American Tapir, the white camel, the South American sea lions, a lot of species wild cats, rare species of antelope, such as the Addax, the Eastern Bongo and the Waterbuck.

Cracow Zoo has a lot of successes in animal breeding that have reached the global scale of achievement, such as the rearing in captivity of the Andean Condor and the Maned Wolf.
We have also had litters from our Snow Leopards our Chinese Leopards (FDC abaixo), Jaguars, Fennec Foxes, Caracal Lynxes, European Wild Cats, Northern Lynxes, Ground Cuscuses, Black Mangabeys, Chimpanzees, Lar Gibbons, Common Marmosets.
We also have regular hatches of Steppe Eagles and a number of parrot species, such as the White Cockatoo, the Blue-and-yellow Macaw, and the Grey Parrot, which is an exceptional achievement.
In our Reptile House you can see a series of interesting species of lizards, turtles and snakes. Our collection also includes Dwarf Caimans, amphibians, exotic fish and invertebrates.
The Director of Cracow Zoo is a member of the International Union of Directors of Zoological Gardens (IUDZG). Our Zoo is a contributor to the work being done in animal breeding by several international commissions to save the species now facing extinction, or threatened with extinction.

Cracóvia foi mencionada pela primeira vez por um mercador “Cordoban”, em 985, como uma cidade dinâmica nas rotas de comércio... Tornou-se parte do Estado Polonês no século X.
Entre várias edificações da cidade, o mapa do selo (Scott: 2549) mostra o “Staremiasto”, uma antiga torre em Cracóvia, também o logotipo de Patrimônio Mundial da UNESCO, pois o Centro Histórico de Cracóvia é considerado Patrimônio da Humanidade.
