Their jaw muscles are claimed by the staying power they need for the permanent chewing. The face muscles are also only weakly developed. So the giraffe's face always has got a bit of a stiff expression.

After 450 day of pregnancy Mary, the litte giraffe, was born on Saturday, March 30. Baby giraffe Henry discovers Zambesi! Born on September 29, baby giraffe Henry now discovers his huge enclosure!

The day Shahni arrived from Zoo Augsburg everybody fell in love with the little giraffe. Especially the male Schorse...

Surrounded by the large African steppe, the savannah and desert area and the hippo-canyons, the giraffe lodge and the adventurous bank area, a colourful village green with trading stores and a cafe have been constructed.
Feel the pulse of Africa! Here is where the trading boats of the Smith & Johnson Company start: all passengers are welcome!
The boats move gently downriver with the herd of hippopotamus almost within touching distance.
A roof of corrugated iron protects the passengers from sun and rain; nothing disturbs the feast of the eyes in the colourful sight of the animal life on the banks.
On the water surface there is a floating tree trunk. Impressive hippopotamus tusks make their way under the bark. Only a few steps away addax antelopes and dorcas gazelles, giraffes and springboks graze on the banks of the river.
Imposing rhinos wallow in the mud on the banks. It's hard to believe that only a narrow line of rocks keeps the heavyweight animals from entering the boats...

Recebi em 23/02/2006, através do email (zoo-newsletter@newsletter.zoo-hannover.de), o anúncio sobre o nascimento de uma girafinha Rothschild macho. Ele nasceu em 17/02/2006, com 190 centímetros e 100 quilogramas. Não é lindinho?!

Shahni (fêmea) – nasceu em 30/04/2000, veio do Zôo de Augsburg.

Constatei girafas pessoalmente em 08/2006 (6 exemplares). Trouxe um guarda-chuva...
