O movimento de defesa dos Direitos dos Animais é muito antigo e surgiu na Inglaterra, em 1824...
A partir de 1840, esse movimento ganhou um novo impulso e, sob a influência direta da Rainha Vitória, obteve a designação de Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - Sociedade Real para a Prevenção da Crueldade Contra os Animais.
Série de 4 valores do Reino Unido da Grã-Bretanha, emitida em 1990 (Scott: 1300/1303), que comemora o Aniversário de 150 Anos da Sociedade Real para a Prevenção da Crueldade Contra os Animais (1840 – RSPCA – 1990). Os selos mostram: gatinho – kitten (0p), coelho – rabbit (9p), patinho – duckling (34p) e cachorrinho ou filhote de cachorro – puppy (37p). JT
Vienna Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
Em 1846, the Viennese poet Ignaz Franz Castelli fundou a sociedade com the motto "Protecting Animals Means Helping People".
Dismayed by the fact that animals have no lobby to protect them, Castelli made the prevention of cruelty to animals his mission in life.
From modest beginnings, when homeless cats and dogs were taken off the streets by a mule carriage, the Society has over the past 120 years evolved into an enterprise that annually takes in and caresfor up to 10.000 animals in its shelters.
Today, which is also active in the federal provinces Lower Austria and Burgenland, employs two veterinarians and operates three around-the-clock animal ambulances to pick up injured or stray animals and take them to the shelter, where five keepers take good care of them.
In addition, three animal protection inspectors investigate 7.000 to 8.000 cases of animal abuse reported annually. The work of the Society is funded through membership fees and donations, but above all by means of the annual Animal Protection Lottery.
Numerous activities, including work with schoolchildren and apprentices and the celebration of the annual World Animal Protection Day, serve to anchor the ideals of animal protection more firmly in the public mind.

Slovene Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
The first Slovene Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was established in 1963.
Today there are ten such societies across Slovenia, joined together in the recently established Association of Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The latter is a member of the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) in London.
After many years of campaigning for a law protecting animal welfare, in 1999 Slovenia's first national welfare law was passed. Though outnumbered by those who abuse animals - hunters, fur industry, scientists, medicine, etc., members continue to promote the protection of animals.
They are fighting tirelessly to prevent cruel practises such as inhumane transportation of animals, experiments on animals, factory farming, ritual killing and all other forms of animal abuse, including daily, individual animal abuses around us.
To bring such animal welfare issues to public attention, October 4th has been proclaimed World Animal Day. On this day organisations for the protection of animals around the world promote vegetarian food and increase public awareness of animal abuse.
To mark this year's World Animal Day and to promote humane treatment of all animals, Post of Slovenia issued a special stamp symbolising man's attitude towards animals. (Lea Eva Müller)

Kenya Society
Sociedade Quêniana para a Proteção e Cuidado dos Animais - Kenya Society for the Protection and Care of Animals - KSPCA foi estabelecida por volta de 1920, aproximadamente, promovendo um tratamento mais humano para os animais, prevenindo e eliminando a crueldade contra os animais.
Os correios do Quênia (KP & TC) emitiram uma série de selos alusivos a alguns dos animais que contribuem com o bem estar de cada queniano...
Série de 5 valores emitida em 13/01/1995 (Scott: 600/604), pela República do Quênia, para a Sociedade Queniana de Prevenção à Crueldade Contra os Animais. Cada selos mostra o emblema: "CARING FOR YOUR ANIMALS – KSPCA".

East African Wild Life Society (EAWS)
A Sociedade de Vida Selvagem do Leste da África é uma das líderes em conservação na região do leste da África. Fundada em 1956, a Sociedade tem como missão promover a conservação e a manutenção da vida animal e o meio ambiente daquela região.
Em reconhecimento a grande contribuição da Sociedade para o meio ambiente, os correios do Quênia (KP & TC) emitiram 4 selos para comemorar o 40° aniversário da Sociedade, em 10/09/1996.
Dedicated to the conservation of wildlife and its habitat in all its forms as a national and international resource, the East African Wild Life Society was formed in 1961 by amalgamating the Wild Life of Societies of Kenya and Tanzania independently founded five years earlier.
Its popular bimonthly magazine "Swara" is highly regarded in the field of general wildlife and natural history, while the quarterly "African Journal of Ecology" is a leading scholarly periodical in the area of interest.

Paul Harris sentiu-se isolado na cidade grande... Imaginou uma associação de profissionais de diferentes áreas que, se reunindo semanalmente, se tornassem amigos e pudessem ser úteis uns aos outros e à comunidade.
Assim, em 1905, nasceu o ROTARY, o primeiro "clube de serviço". A idéia cresceu e o "ideal de servir" se estendeu aos cinco continentes, através do ROTARY e de outros clubes de serviços.

A Organização Internacional do Clube Lions foi fundada por Melvin Jones (1880-1961), em 1917 – Chicago. Foi introduzida no Quênia em 1958.
